My Life as a Folk Singer

I used to be kind of artistic.  Like , I studied acting in college.

For about two minutes, I was a singer-songwriter.

(Now I’m in marketing; still creative, not so artistic.   🙂 )

During my brief stint in songwriting, I never came up with much good–so I’ve gotta give a huge shout-out to my gramma and little sisters who would always listen to my songs and tell me they liked them, even though they were probably just being nice to me more than anything.  (What else are grammas and little sisters for?)  But there was one that wasn’t half-bad. And as I was going through some old files on my computer, I found it tonight–so I thought I’d share it here just for the helluvit.  I’m singing and playing the piano, with my brilliantly talented friend Kevin Allred on guitar.

Yeah, I know, it’s another media post that doesn’t really have much to do with the stated theme of this blog.  My mind’s been meandering elsewhere lately, so it might be about time to expand the scope of what I do here anyway.   Hopefully my 5 or 6 loyal readers won’t mind.  🙂  (If you do mind, I guess, let me know in the comments below!)

  1. I don’t mind 🙂 You know, your voice sounds so good on this track. The last thing I really remember you singing was your part in _You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown_. How can I download yours and Kevin’s songs?

  2. Hey Laura, thanks! Wow, Charlie Brown…now that was a long time ago…probably, what, going on 10 years now or something? When did we get old? LOL.

If you want to download my track, you can get it here . Just right click the link and select Save-As. It’s an MP3. I personally don’t have any others–at least any I think are at all good enough to share publicly. 😉 I recorded this one with Kevin in a little studio in Logan a couple weeks before I left on my mission.

You can download Kevin’s latest album here for something like $9 or something. I think it came out in ’03. I’m not sure how much he’s singing anymore. I haven’t really spoken with him much lately, though we’re in touch on Facebook from time to time…mostly making silly comments on each others’ status updates.

  3. Thanks for sharing this, Katie! Wow – you weren’t kidding about singing. Girl, you can SING! 🙂 You have a great voice! And the piano sounds really good too!

  4. You sound lovely here, Katie. Way better than I can sing.

  5. LOVE the pic! LOVE IT!! You are so awesome. It makes me miss theatre.

  6. Jessica and Jack, thanks!

Heather…yeah, that’s kind of a fun pic. I’m not quite that cute anymore, though. A bit rounder around the edges if you know what I mean. That was like 8 years ago. 🙂

I’m trying to figure out how I can get copies of some of the professional photos from the old Utah State Theatre days. I have a pretty funny/naughty one of me with two other people in a bed from Cabaret that they turned into a poster a couple years back. I’d love to have it.

    *sigh*

    Yeah, I miss theatre too.
